support@your-domain.com, instead of the generic no-reply@base44-apps.com. This applies to every email your app sends, including send email integrations, one-time passwords (OTP), password resets, and app invitations.
Sending from your own domain gives your emails a professional look that matches your brand and can improve trust and deliverability. You set it up under Sending address on your Domains page, where you can see your current sending address and switch from the default to your own.
Important information
Before you set up a custom email domain, keep the following in mind:- You must be on the Starter plan or above.
- Your custom domain must be connected to your app before you start.
- You can connect one custom email domain per app.
- Custom email domains are for sending only. To receive email at your domain, buy a business email through Base44, or configure MX records with your own email provider, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. See Buying a business email.
- Sending an email from a custom domain typically uses ~2 integration credits per email, while standard emails use ~1 credit.
- Built-in emails do not support external mailing lists.
Using a Base44 domain
If you bought your domain directly from Base44, you do not need to add DNS records manually. To set up your email domain:- Click Dashboard in your app editor.
- Click Domains.
- Under Sending address, click Use your domain.
If you don’t see this button, click Edit sending address at the top of the section instead.
- Enter a Sender name, the name people see in their inbox.
- Enter a Custom address, such as
info,no-reply, orsupport. If you have more than one domain connected, select the Base44 domain you want to use from the Domain menu. - Click Connect Domain.
One of 2 things happens next:
- If a setup window opens, sign in to your domain provider and approve the DNS changes.
- If Pending verification appears, check your sending address on the Domains page. When Complete Setup appears next to it, click it, then sign in to your domain provider and approve the DNS changes. When it does not, Base44 is adding the records for you.
Status: You see a Pending verification status while your DNS records are being verified. This usually takes a few minutes but can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate. Once complete, the status changes to Active.
Using an external domain
If you connected a domain purchased from an external provider, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap, you must manually add DNS records to verify the domain for email sending. To set up your email domain:- Click Dashboard in your app editor.
- Click Domains.
- Under Sending address, click Use your domain.
If there’s no Use your domain button, click Edit sending address at the top of the section.
- Enter a Sender name, the name people see in their inbox.
- Enter a Custom address, such as
info,no-reply, orsupport. If you have more than one domain connected, select the external domain you want to use from the Domain menu. - Click Connect Domain.
- In the verification window, copy the CNAME records that Base44 shows you.
- Go to your domain provider’s DNS settings and add the new CNAME records exactly as shown.
- (Optional but recommended) Add a DMARC TXT record to set your email policy. See the example below.
- Return to the Base44 dashboard and click Verify.
It may take up to 48 hours for the records to propagate and for the status to change to Active.
Editing sender details
Once your email domain is active, you can change the name your emails come from and the address they’re sent from at any time. These sender details apply to every email your app sends, and they replace any sender name you set through the AI chat. To edit your sender details:- Click Dashboard in your app editor.
- Click Domains.
- Under Sending address, next to your sending address, click the More actions icon .
- Click Edit Sender Details.
- Update the Sender name.
- Update the Custom address, the part before the @ sign. It can use lowercase letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, and underscores, and must start with a letter or number.
- Click Save Changes.
If you have more than one domain connected, you can also pick a different domain for your address. Base44 then sets up the new domain for email, and it needs to be verified again before your app sends from it.
Understanding your DNS records
When you set up a custom email domain, Base44 gives you 3 CNAME records for authentication. You only need to add these 3 CNAME records for Base44 email sending. Additional TXT records for SPF or DKIM are not required. For a domain-level sending address, the records follow this pattern:- Envelope sender
- Name:
em - Value: a host such as
u58367809.wl060.sendgrid.net(example value, your value is different)
- Name:
- DKIM key 1
- Name:
s1._domainkey - Value: a host such as
s1.domainkey.u58367809.wl060.sendgrid.net
- Name:
- DKIM key 2
- Name:
s2._domainkey - Value: a host such as
s2.domainkey.u58367809.wl060.sendgrid.net
- Name:
em.yourdomain.coms1._domainkey.yourdomain.coms2._domainkey.yourdomain.com
mail.yourdomain.com, the record names are:
em.mails1._domainkey.mails2._domainkey.mail
ems1._domainkeys2._domainkey
u12345678.wl123.sendgrid.net. The full hostnames and values must match exactly what you see in your Base44 dashboard.
Key points:
- There are always 3 CNAME records for the Base44 email setup.
- The record names and values are specific to your domain, so copy and paste them without changes.
- You do not need extra TXT records for SPF or DKIM. Those checks are handled through the CNAME records.
- If your DNS provider only asks for the host label, enter just the label (for example,
emors1._domainkey) and the provider adds your domain automatically.
s1._domainkey or s2._domainkey from another email provider. If those records exist, remove or update them so only the Base44 specific CNAME records remain.
Optional: Adding a DMARC record
DMARC is an optional but recommended TXT record that tells other email providers how to handle messages that fail SPF or DKIM checks. Base44 does not add DMARC automatically. You can start with a relaxed DMARC policy such as:- Host:
_dmarc - Type:
TXT - Value:
v=DMARC1; p=none; adkim=r; aspf=r; pct=100
